چکیده
Environmental factors can influence the effectiveness of microbial insecticides based on spores and crystal proteins of Bacilus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) and B. sphaericus (Bs) in mosquito control programs. The impact of water quality and sunlight on the activity and persistence of commercially available microbial larvicidal formulations based on Bti and Bs was investigated within irrigation fields in the Wrocław area. Bioassays were conducted in fieldand semi-field conditions using Ochlerotatus caspius [Pallas] larvae. The survey on the persistence of Bti and Bs strains after the application of microbial insecticides based on Bti and Bs was carried out by isolating both bacilli strains from the sediment found in sewage channels. The results showed different activity patterns in larval mortality, but no significant differences between dosages after both biocides application. It was observed that natural sunlight decreases the effectiveness of Bti and Bs. The modeling of the Oc. caspius larvae survival data after Bti application showed a substantial difference between the proportion of mosquito larvae mortality and survival rate in sunlit and shaded conditions. In sunlit conditions, the activity of Bs was also reduced, but the mortality effect demonstrated significant interaction between time and exposure habitats. The presence of bacilli in sewage channels showed their occurrence in sediment. However, the great number of Bti and Bs strains among the total spore-forming bacilli in environmental samples was insignificant, ranging from 3.5% to 6.1%.

Comparison between diflubenzuron and a Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis- and Lysinibacillus sphaericus-based formulation for the control of mosquito larvae in urban catch basins in Switzerland.
A field test was conducted to evaluate a commercial biolarvicide based on Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis and Lysinibacillus sphaericus to control mosquitoes breeding in catch basins in southern Switzerland. The efficacy and residual activity of the microbial mosquito larvicide applied at the recommended rate of 10 g per catch basin was compared to the currently used larvicide diflubenz...
متن کاملLong Lasting Persistence of Bacillus thuringiensis Subsp. israelensis (Bti) in Mosquito Natural Habitats
BACKGROUND The detrimental effects of chemical insecticides on the environment and human health have lead to the call for biological alternatives. Today, one of the most promising solutions is the use of spray formulations based on Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti) in insect control programs. As a result, the amounts of Bti spread in the environment are expected to increase worldw...
متن کاملNon-larvicidal effects of Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis and Bacillus sphaericus on oviposition and adult mortality of Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae).
Two microbial mosquito larvicides, Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. israelensis (Bti) and Bacillus sphaericus (Bsph), have been shown to be highly effective in controlling mosquito larvae and have been used in larvicidal programs for many years. In exploring other modes of action of these agents, we studied the ovipositional response of Bsph susceptible and resistant Culex quinquefasciatus to aqueou...

Two biological formulations of microbial agents Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus sphaericus known by their trade names as Vectobac 12 AS and VectoLex CG (Corn Cob) granules, respectively were obtained from Abbott Laboratories of North Chicago, USA. The B. sphaericus formulation was used in trials against Culex mosquito larvae in choked gutters at Labadi, Ashaiman and Nungua in the Greater Ac...

Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (B.t.i.), HD-968-S-1983, and a primary powder of Bacillus sphaericus 2362 were assayed against Mansonia titillans and Ma. dyari. The susceptibility of the 2 species to the individual bacterial toxins was similar. The B.t.i. LC50 values were 50.5 micrograms/liter for Ma. dyari and 54.7 micrograms/liter for Ma. titillans; the B. sphaericus LC50 values were ...
